Halloween

Well, I could not find a costume small enough for Aidan, so I will have to wait until next year. But we did get him a 1st Halloween onsie! Once we changed him, fed him and burped him - he was out like a light, so all pictures are with him sleeping.

One month

Aidan is one month old!
He is 10 pounds and 6 ounces and 23 and a quarter inches long. His weight puts him in a 50th percentile and his height in 90th. Basically he is tall and his weight is average for his age.
He is doing very well. Eats about 3 oz every 2-3 hours. I say ‘about’, because you never know with breastfeeding. I know he can consume 4 oz of formula. I know that because one day I had two glasses of wine and we gave him formula…I had to pump and dump…luckily I had wine after I fed him, so it was not too bad. Sleeping through the night was not fun though, it was like the first day when milk came in…Aidan definitely likes the boob. It took forever to settle him down that night; he was full of formula but wanted the boob anyway! Actually it is quite phenomenal that boob thing. No matter what he is upset about boob always saves the day! Now I understand why breastfeeding mothers are so fond of it! Nobody can calm the baby like a breastfeeding mother (well, I am sure bottle feeding mothers have other tricks). All I have to do is whip the boob out and he is the happiest little camper!
Little by little Aidan is becoming more fun to be around. He definitely responds to me, must be that magical boob thing. He looks at me when I talk to him and even smiles every now and then when I do silly stuff to entertain him. He is more awake now and loves to go around and check things out. He is mostly interested in windows, TV, computer screen and any light fixture because of the bright light.
He also figured out that he can grunt; now he grunts a lot at night when he wakes up. It is funny, because it sounds like he is trying to wiggle out of his clothes or something, but all it really means is ‘I am awake and you have about 10 min to get up and feed me before I start screaming’.
He is very animated. He makes so many different faces! His mouth is constantly on the move-he pouts, purses his lips, does letter O, smiles and so many more things! He loves to show off his dance moves, his little arms go in circles; he tells a lot of fishing stories, where he shows us how big the fish was.
Aidan loves to exercise his arms and legs, but hates belly time. He is trying to keep his head up, especially when he is hungry and grumpy.

Update

I think I am figuring out this "small wonder" ( that's what Jason calls Aidan). Pretty much whenever he is crying he IS hungry...duhh...Even though it seems like all I do is feed, burp, change and feed again. Things however are becoming more routine, therefore more predictable and as a result easier. Today and yesterday I was able to take a nap while Aidan was napping - huge accomplishment. Nothing is getting done around the house though.

Jason is in Emmitsburg this week, so not much is happening.

In other news - I got a laptop!!! All mine!!! Jason has a laptop, that he uses for work and we also have a new super fast computer in the office upstairs. The problem was that there is nothing to put the baby in while I am upstairs, so it was hard for me to use that comp. Last Sunday I was complaining about that to John and Terry and they just went to Costco and bought me a LAPTOP! Just like that! Now I can keep all my photos on MY laptop, all my documents etc. I can take it to work too!  I have best in-laws!!!

First bath

What do you know? Aidan actually likes bathing! I think it's the warmth that he likes. I am happy!

He also does not mind his diaper changed, don't get me wrong he does not particularly enjoy it either. He does not like being dressed and shoved into a car seat. We went for a walk today, he screamed for like 10 min after I put him into his seat. After that he fell asleep and is still sleeping. He can go for hours in a stroller or Baby Bjorn carrier. For example yesterday we took my mom to the airport (she had some urgent things to take care of back home, but she is coming back). He was such a good baby, slept like an angel even though we were pushing it time wise.

The other day he finally noticed the mobile in his crib! He was staring at it for a while :)

16 days

Yesterday Aidan's umbilical cord fell off! We can take baths! I hope he likes bathing...He likes warm wipes on his butt :)

Also he has decided that swaddling is overrated! He now likes his arms out...oh my...He has also decided that sleep is overrated. He has been up during the day and not so sleepy at night...He seems to want to nurse more and more, so it confuses the heck out of me. We are trying to stop giving him formula, so that could be a good reason why his schedule is so messed up. Who said breastfeeding is simple? I'd like to meet this person. It seems that he figured out that he likes being held as well...Life with a newborn...

Aidan is two weeks old!

Today we had another doctors appointment (number 4, I believe). First appointment we had on Sunday after he was born. He was getting more yellow and we have not seen him urinate at all, so we were concerned. Sunday was the day when we made a difficult decision to start supplementing with formula (was not in our original plans). Doctor said Aidan was fine, but suggested to keep him on formula for a little longer. My milk came in next day – Monday. Next time we went to doctors because they wanted to check his status on jaundice and see if he was gaining any weight. Again, he was fine, but they wanted us to come again in two days to check weight. In two days his weight was a bit lower than at the previous appointment, so we were suggested to keep supplementing with formula and come back in five days. Therefore, today was our fourth appointment and Thank God he has gained enough and we will go back for one month check.

Aidan seems like a happy little guy. Generally he wakes up every 3 hours for feedings. I say generally, because lately he has been messing around with his schedule. Oh well…

Looking at his photos, I see that his face is changing. He is sort of growing into it!

First shopping trip

We went shopping today! Actually we decided to buy a stroller. Initially we thought we would order it on-line, but Jason suggested going to the store. So we did! Considering the fact that Aidan eats every 3 hours (which in reality is 2 hours) we did not have much time, but we managed to do it. We are hoping to go for a walk tonight (after the sun goes down – it is so hot!) I will take pictures and post them as soon as I can.

First Walk

Today Aidan had his first walk! Well, we walked while he was carried around. The weather was glorious and we just could not pass the opportunity to get out of the house. It actually turned out to be way hotter than we anticipated. Jason had Aidan strapped to his chest in a Baby Bjorn carrier, and if you have ever carried a baby or held one, you would know how much heat those little things generate. Poor Jason was getting much overheated, while Aidan was happily asleep! It was our first time trying out the carrier and we are pleased to report that the kid loved it! I will post photos as soon as I am able (some technical difficulties).
