Aidan's 1st Birthday!

Aidan is 1 year old! We cannot believe it. We made it!
Initially I did not want to do anything special for his birthday, him being so young, you know. However, every single person told me to have a party. Jason said that WE need a party, not the kid. Which is kind of true.
So we have invited all our immediate family members to help us celebrate. We were very happy that almost everybody was able to take time off and come see us.
Aidan did so well. He took two naps before the guests arrived, actually everybody waited for almost an hour for him to wake up. At first he was shocked to see all those people in the house, but within an hour he warmed up and let everybody hold him.
Surprisingly he did not freak out when we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him; he wanted the cake which Jason and I were holding in front of him!
Aidan got lots of new clothes, which we have asked for and some cool new toys. I think the party was great and I am looking forward to the next one!

Mini Vacation

We have decided to take a mini vacation, since neither Jason nor I could imagine going anywhere remote with Aidan, we figured that a ‘staycation’ is the best. We both felt like getting out of the house would be good too, so we asked Nanna and Poppies to stay at their condo on Solomons Island.
Aidan loved exploring the condo! Of course since it is not child proof, we had our hands full! He absolutely loved the deck and we all spent lots of time there and had all our meals there too.
This would have been the greatest weekend ever if it was not for Aidan who absolutely refused to nap in a new place. He slept though nights OK, but day naps were out of question. Needless to say we had a very tired and cranky baby on our hands all the time!
Weather was excellent throughout the whole weekend and we spent as much time outside as possible. Our Saturday plan was to visit the Art Fair which was at the Ann Marie Gardens. It was wonderful - beautiful sunny day in the garden, shaded by trees. We used the backpack for Aidan this time too, although the stroller would have been a much better idea. There were not too many people, so we decided to let Aidan walk around, which he did with pleasure. Of course the pleasure did not last long. Aidan wanted to play in the middle of the busy crosswalk, and by ‘play’ I mean pick tiny little stones and sticks of the ground while tons of people were walking by! As soon as we removed him from there he had a major meltdown and was inconsolable. We had to leave without lemonade and funnel cake!
On Sunday we went for a nice long walk on a board walk, had a tasty lunch at a local restaurant and even enjoyed some ice cream! Aidan was very good. Afterwards we tried to visit some antique stores in the area, but Aidan was not interested. He was getting tired again, so we figured that he might give it up and take a nap in the car. We drove around for a while, exploring the area and stumbled upon a park with a beach! Who knew it was right there! Well I guess everybody but us. It was getting late, but we decided to check it out anyways. Aidan was a little unsure of the sand, but got over it pretty fast. I took him to the water and he had a blast throwing little shells in the water – so cute! It was time to get back home though, but Aidan did not want to go and as soon as I picked him up he started scramming. Poor baby, he was so tired. All the way to the car through the park he cried and cried and cried some more.
Both Jason and I are looking forward to the time when Aidan is not so dependent on naps. As soon as we got back home he went back to his normal nap schedule.
May be next year…

Fair

We went to our local fair on Saturday and it was the best fair I have ever been to. We put Aidan in the backpack since stroller is a little too wide and bulky for certain areas. The layout of the fairgrounds was so smart. All animals were on one side, tractors and all sorts of machinery on the other, rides and entertainment were in the middle and food stands were in a separate area. Every single barn had a wash up station, so kids could wash their hands after touching animals.
Aidan enjoyed himself a lot. We spent about 3 hours there and would have spent even more (we did not visit the birthing center or milking station), but the heat was getting to us. By 1pm it was 100 degrees and no breeze at all. We were worried about Aidan and he was getting a little tired too.

First bath

What do you know? Aidan actually likes bathing! I think it's the warmth that he likes. I am happy!

He also does not mind his diaper changed, don't get me wrong he does not particularly enjoy it either. He does not like being dressed and shoved into a car seat. We went for a walk today, he screamed for like 10 min after I put him into his seat. After that he fell asleep and is still sleeping. He can go for hours in a stroller or Baby Bjorn carrier. For example yesterday we took my mom to the airport (she had some urgent things to take care of back home, but she is coming back). He was such a good baby, slept like an angel even though we were pushing it time wise.

The other day he finally noticed the mobile in his crib! He was staring at it for a while :)

First shopping trip

We went shopping today! Actually we decided to buy a stroller. Initially we thought we would order it on-line, but Jason suggested going to the store. So we did! Considering the fact that Aidan eats every 3 hours (which in reality is 2 hours) we did not have much time, but we managed to do it. We are hoping to go for a walk tonight (after the sun goes down – it is so hot!) I will take pictures and post them as soon as I can.

First Walk

Today Aidan had his first walk! Well, we walked while he was carried around. The weather was glorious and we just could not pass the opportunity to get out of the house. It actually turned out to be way hotter than we anticipated. Jason had Aidan strapped to his chest in a Baby Bjorn carrier, and if you have ever carried a baby or held one, you would know how much heat those little things generate. Poor Jason was getting much overheated, while Aidan was happily asleep! It was our first time trying out the carrier and we are pleased to report that the kid loved it! I will post photos as soon as I am able (some technical difficulties).

Ahhh...

Yesterday I had my first prenatal massage at a little Spa that they opened up near us. It was sooooo nice! I forgot how much I missed Spa; just the smell of it was relaxing…

Next two weeks are going to be crazy busy for us. We are at the grant reviews in Emmitsburg, so this weekend is all about relaxation, at least for me.

Yesterday my day started with yummiest blueberry pancakes and lots of maple syrup. I blame Jason and Little Jorge for that, I never ever liked pancakes before pregnancy! Then we did a little shopping and went out for lunch. I had the yummiest tomato and mozzarella salad. It was so good, I have to go back for more! When we got home I took a nice long nap and went for my massage. After that we just watched TV until dinner time. Jason made some wild salmon and I made some salad for dinner. And listen to this…we opened up a bottle of Pinot!!! I had a glass of wine!!! It was so good, even though the wine was a bit young and had a lot of oak in it; it was still so nice to have a glass of wine with my dinner….And we had ice cream for dessert! It was a perfect day!!!

I probably should not say it, but I think Little Jorge enjoyed the wine, he was dancing!

I definitely should mention this though, Jason’s day started with a jog with Charlie (while I was still sleeping). It was so hot and humid, I thought his head would explode, that’s how red his face was when they got home. Charlie was hot too, but after 30 min she was ready to go again – nothing tires out this one.

And while I was getting my massage (they took me in a bit late, so I was finished late) Jason and Charlie sat in the parking lot for 30 min waiting for me to come out, oops…

At the end of the day my poor Jason had to finish that bottle of Pinot, and you know how hard that is!

Kegels

When we decided that it was time for us to start trying out for a baby, Jason bought himself a Daddy Book to get prepared. It basically, tells you what to expect during pregnancy from a guy’s point of view. Very good book.
Jason would read it to me in bed and that’s how the Kegel thing started. He read that it is very much recommended for pregnant and not only women to do Kegels. We both agreed on the importance of the exercise and he made me promise to do Kegels everyday to help me during and after pregnancy.

Every now and then, he would ask me if I have been doing my Kegels and I would say I have. Nevertheless, me saying yes was not enough. One day he was getting ready for a workout and told me that since he has not seen me doing any Kagels I should go with him and do my Kegels while he is working out. I had better things to do, so I said no. He started pleading and even offered to do Kegels with me.
-What? You will do Kegels with me? How?
Jason said he would lay down next to me and do Kegels as well!!! At this point I was laughing so hard that I was crying! Of course, he could not figure out why him doing Kegels was so funny; turns out all that time he thought that it was some sort of a pelvic thrust type exercise! Such a silly boy!

Hello and Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to our Baby Journal!

The baby is due September 18, 2007. We are expecting a boy! We have not decided on the name yet. For now he is known as “Little Jorge”. Don’t ask why - we don’t know.

So far the pregnancy has been a breeze and I am hoping it will stay that way. I did not have morning sickness, cravings or any other pregnancy side effects. I am very lucky.
Baby is developing very well, we are both getting bigger and bigger!

We had our first ultrasound at 20 weeks and 3 days (you can see photos in the album). It was very exiting to see our baby for the first time! I could actually see him kick me and not just feel it. We were able to look at his bone structure as well as all organs – everything looked great! We wanted to know the sex as soon as possible, so the tech just let us figure it out ourselves. She paused on the image and asked us what we thought and we both saw a little penis! Of course, Jason thought it was a giant one.

We also had a peek at his nose and lips, when the tech zoomed on his face he opened his mouth and stuck his tongue out! We could also see all little fingers and toes! He kept moving and kicking all the time, I think from the discomfort of being poked at. At the end he settled down and started sucking his thumb. So cute! Needless to say we both got a little teary.

Now we are planning to get a 4D ultrasound. They offer a CD and printed images at the end of the session. We are hoping to get some better pictures as well as see our baby again. I can see how one can get addicted to ultrasounds!

We have also posted my belly pictures. I thought it will be interesting to see how big I am actually going to get.
