Subway Lunch

While Chris was away with the car, the kids and I walked to Subway to use our coupon for lunch.  I should say, the girls and I walked, Enzo got to ride in the ergo - he's not quite up to the walking ability of the girls just yet.  I didn't tell the Zoë and Abby where we were going, I just told them to get their shoes on and out we went.  The entire time they were guessing and guessing where we might be going.

We first arrived at the post office, and that threw them a little bit, but Abby was on the right track and even guessed that we were going to Subway, until she realized I didn't have the diaper bag, which meant I didn't have my coupon keeper.  I couldn't fool the girls for long though, they both asked if maybe I'd brought a coupon along in my purse.  Finally we turned the corner and they saw the store and they were pleased that they'd guessed correctly.  We got two foot long sandwiches - one free with the coupon - as well as a drink and chips.  The girls made quick work of the chicken terriyaki sandwich, which I'd been hoping to get my hands on, while Enzo and I shared half of the veggie patty sandwich.  We wrapped up the extra sandwich, all of the kids went potty, and then came the cookie discussion.  Of course the cookies are right there by the cashier, so we talked about how much the ingredients cost at the store to make cookies at home, and how many we get for that cost.  Then compared that to how many cookies (3!) you get for the same price at Subway.  Abby decided that she'd like to give me some money at home to pay me back if I let her get a cookie to have right then.  Zoë wanted the cookie, but didn't wan to part with her money, but ultimately decided on the cookie... .50 cents wasn't too much to part with I guess, especially since we don't have any chocolate chips at home right now.  With our three cookies in hand (and $1.52 less in my purse) we walked back home.  Enzo finally got to enjoy some bites of cookie - he's been screaming 'cookie, cookie' the whole time we were waiting to purchase them - and the girls got to eat theirs on the walk home too.

Park Day Cancelled

Zoë and Abby were super bummed that our usual Wednesday park day was cancelled for today, due to the weather.  All day the girls were keeping an eye on the skies, assuring me that it wasn't currently raining so it was still possible to go.  When they heard that our friends were planning to go tomorrow instead - when Daddy will be gone with the car - they were even more dissapointed.  Usually we meet at a nearby playground that we can walk to, but this week we were going to be meeting at one further away.

Zoë was trying to devise all sorts of ways that we could still go meet up with our friends.  She thought maybe Daddy could drop us off, nevermind that he was leaving about three hours before meet-up time and getting back at bed time, or we could take the bus, or, or, or.  After realizing that it just wasn't going to happen, we found some stuff to keep us busy at home and decided that tomorrow we'll make muffins while Enzo naps to take our minds off of it.

Sprouting Tomatoes

We noticed that our tomato plants are beginning to sprout.  When the girls went into the kitchen and noticed this, they were so excited.  We started these in the planters we made at Lowe's, and we're pleased that they seem to be doing well.  All this in spite of the fact that Enzo has gotten to them at least once and dug his fingers in before I could get his hand away.  Hopefully this means that these little guys are fighters, because last year none of our veggies and herbs grew!

Home Depot Vacation Build - Herb Garden

This week at Home Depot they are having some building projects for vacation week.  It's not the big production that their Saturday builds usually are, but they have a table with kits and tools for parents to do on their own with their kids.  After yoga we headed over there (luckily Daddy brought us girls each a bowl of oatmeal to eat on the way over!) and did the quick build in no time.  It was a little planter complete with jalapeño pepper seeds for one mini planter pot and cilantro for the other.  There's supposed to be a different project each day this week so we're hoping to make most of them.

Challenging Yoga

Todays' class was a challenging one for sure!  I think maybe due to various things.  One being that we didn't take any classes during the weekend and it was a Monday morning for sure!  Also, we got a late start and didn't get to eating breakfast until about 30 minutes before class.  We didn't want to eat a big breakfast so close to class time - Zoë learned this a week or two ago as a tummy full of food doesn't go well with twisting turning and tipping upside down - so we all just had a banana, but I got some oatmeal made for afterwards.  Needless to say, being hungry for the last half of class made it hard to finish strong - at least for me.  Not just that, Julia's classes are challenging in general.  It's a good thing, just not when you're tired and hungry. :)

Tree Planting

When we got to the Valley's today, Grampy was there and told us that Reanna and Corey had gone to get a tree and would be back shortly.  Sure enough, not too long after Chris took the kids into the backyard to play, they pulled up in the big black truck with cherry tree in the back.  Zoë and Abby got some of Reanna's work gloves from the shed and helped Corey dig the hole to put the tree in.  Zoë had to come in a little before the work was done, because she dumped some dirt on Abby's head.  Abby came in a couple of minutes later and then, as we were getting shoes on to leave, they got to see the tree getting put into the ground.

Dear girls,  You are invited to our house next spring!  In early March, we put 500 cherry trees into the ground.  We also put 300 red oak and 300 black walnut trees.  We could really use the extra help.  Sometimes we throw dirt at each other too (by accident) so you would fit right in!

Visit to Drumlin Farms

After the Lowe's build project we returned home for some quick lunch then off to the farm.  We had planned to meet up with friends at 1 PM at Drumlin Farms.  We had never been before but had heard good things.  Another of Laura's home schoolers was there by chance as well.  Abby and Zoë had a great time exploring with Jack and Anna.  We got to see tons of animals; goats, pigs, many different types of chickens and their eggs, ducks, cows, sheep, owls, fox, rabbits, smelled a skunk but didn't actually see it, saw a doe, a crow, a wild turkey, a petrofied spider and probably more.  Afterwards we headed back to our friends house to relax and chat over a nice meal.  Abby and Zoë even got to take some photos of the farm visit.

Lowe's Build and Grow - Bird Feeder

Abby and Zoë were excited about making bird feeders today at Lowes.  There is a bird nesting in our rafters and these feeds will just encourage it more to make our home it's home.  The girls are excited about that prospect.  The build kicked off at 10am even though we were there early.  There were a handful of other families waiting as well.  We were quick to build our kits.  The girls were able to hold the project with one hand and sucessfully hammer with the other hand.  This is the first time I didn't have to risk my fingers getting hit the whole time while I steady the project while they hammer.  Zoë hit her finger on one occassion until I readjusted her hands.  This is the second build for which we have no spots on the apron to affix the patch.  We still haven't come up with a patch solution.  We might strip the old patched off and just affix the new ones, or make some sort of flag/banner that we can bring with all of our extra patches, but that feels more like boasting and bragging about our dedication and accomplishments.  Anyone know how we can get a hold of the cub scouts and girls scouts activity booklets without actually joining a troop or pack.  I would be interested in working with my girls on these activities, even if they don't earn the badges or patches.

If you do not want to join a troop (although there are more opportunites if you do), your daughter's would register for $12 a year, as probably "Daisy Scouts," due to their age.  Any un-attached girl is known as a "Juliette" after Juliette Gordon Lowe, founder of Girl Scouts.  Registration would be towards August or September.  Your Council would be "GS of the Green and White Mountains," 603-627-4158.  They'll send you the paperwork!  Acadia is now a Cadette Girl Scout, having been in since she too was a Daisy.  I have been a Leader for 7 years and LOVE it.

Animal Class

Jodi, the teacher for our class today, thought up the poses for class today with Zoë and Abby in mind.  Apparently at the last class they went to, with Chris, someone mentioned that it would be fun (for the girls I presume) to do an animal related class since there are so many poses that have animal names.  Unfortunately Zoë stayed home from class because she's stuffy and didn't want to be blowing her nose all during class.

We did horse, dolphin, dog, puppy, camel, dead bug (aka happy baby), cat and cow, fish, eagle, pigeon and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting, along with the usual vinyasas.

Earth Day 2010

Well, we didn't get out and plant any trees or pick up trash, but we did our part to remind the kids to turn off lights and generally be mindful.  We've been talking all week about not being wasteful in general and why Earth Day was started 40 years ago.

In the evening Enzo and I dropped Daddy and the girls off and this time we went to the store.  However, our trip wasn't as fun as the trips Enzo's been taking with Daddy.  We were picking up a few food items we needed and then dropped it off at home to go wait for Zoë, Abby, and Daddy to be done with their practice.

Lap Time

Chris took Enzo to lap time at the library.  It's like the story time that I've taken the girls to so many times, but geared for the birth to age 3 group.  I have yet to get Enzo to one of these 'baby story times' so I was glad that the time was just right for Chris to be able to drop the girls and I off at yoga and take Enzo for this at the library.

Chris said that as soon as they sat down in the story time room, Enzo signed and told Chris that he needed to go 'pee pee' so off they went to the bathroom for a successfull potty break.  Enzo enjoyed some Daddy time while Miss. Susan led them in songs, read a book, and did some other fun lyrical activities for 45 minutes.

Abby's One on One

Tonight was Abby's turn for her one on one yoga class.  To make things 'even' I went with her, while Chris took Zoë and Enzo to fill the car with gas and then to Ocean State Job Lots to check out their squeegie selection.

Abby did pretty well, though there was a bit of frustration on my part for the first part of the class.  We even took it fairly easy today so that she wouldn't be so tired out.  Sometimes she just seems to not be present, to not have the focus that's needed to get the most out of the practice.  We're working on it though, because I know - as was the case with Zoë yesterday - that when the focus is there they come away from class really having enjoyed themselves.

One on One Yoga

This morning Zoë and I got ready to head to yoga, just her and I.  So that Chris didn't have to deal with getting Enzo and Abby in and out of the car, and so that Zoë didn't get tired out walking back and forth, I decided to just hop her into Enzo's bike seat and bike into town.  Luckily for Zoë she's just under the wieght limit for the seat, which is 40 pounds, unluckily for me she's just under that at 39 pounds.

The class went a lot better with me sitting beside Zoë and just working with her.  I think that Zoë enjoyed the class more and got more out if it, with having the help to stay focused and getting into the poses and holding them.  She didn't get floppy and all tired out and distracted like she has been.  Hopefully she can keep this focus next time, when she's not having a one on one session.

Shopping Around

I decided not to go to church this morning, since Enzo is having some teething/allergy issues and was just generally cranky.  Instead we went and picked up a few things at Target since we heard they were giving away a free re-usable shopping bag today for earth day.  Next we went to get a few more items at Wal-mart.

After lunch and a nap for Enzo, we headed to the Valley's for a little visit.  Elijah finished his nap and then we all went to the Goodwill to browse around.  As always, Chris found me some great bargains.  Gray tags were the sale tags today (making shirts just $2.50)  I was in need of some camisols/tank-tops and he found so many great ones that we had to weed through so I didn't go home with a mountain of them.  He even found me a zip up fleece with a gray tag.  Reanna found a bagfull of clothes as well and we headed back to their house, where Grampy was waiting for us.  It was nearing dinner time and just before we packed up to head home, Pete and Alicia showed up.  Grampy decided to join us at our house for chili and cornbread dinner, as well as the girls reading to him from their chapter books, then it was time for everyone to get some sleep.

Balsamic Sautéed Mushrooms

I made these tonight to go along with our cod and other veggies.  Zoë's job was quartering the mushrooms, while I got the breading for the fish ready - so glad the girls can help me out in the kitchen - and both girls chowed these down, begging for me to save them seconds.  I even learned a helpful hint on cleaning the mushrooms - to scrub the dirt off with a little scrubber brush instead of rinsing them under water as the wet mushrooms won't sautée as well.

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons dark brown sugar
2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
2 Tablespoons extra virgrin olive oil
1 pound mushrooms, cleaned and quartered.
Kosher salt
1 to 2 teaspoons minced garlic

Directions:
Combine balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and 1 Tablespoon water in a small dish.  In a 10 inch straight sided sauté pan, heat 1 Tablespoon of the butter with the olive oil over medium-high heat.  When the butter is melted, add the mushrooms and 3/4 teaspoon of salt, and stir right away with a wooden spoon until the mushrooms have absorbed all the fat.  Let the mushrooms cook undisturbed for 2 minutes, then stir once.  The pan will look dry, but keep the heat at medium-high and continue to cook, stirring infrequently, until mushrooms are shrunken, 6-7 minutes more.  Turn heat to low, add garlic and remaining 1 Tablespoon butter and stir until butter is melted and garlic is fragrant.  Add balsamic mixture and stir until liquid reduces and has created a glaze on the mushrooms.  Transfer to serving dish, making sure to scrape out all of the garlic and glaze.  Serve warm.

A Bed of His Own

For a few days now, Enzo has been using one of the crib/toddler mattresses that used to be Zoë and Abby's.  It started the other night when I was taking Enzo in for bed and he saw one of the mattresses leaning up in our room.  He took interest in it so I set down on the floor right beside our bed and put his pillow and things on it and after he nursed I put him down in the bed and patted him the rest of the way to sleep.

Since then he's been taking his naps on the bed and he starts the night out there.  Sometimes he's already asleep when I settle him in his bed, other times he's mostly asleep and I'll pat him the rest of the way to sleep.  Most nights he stays asleep until 10:00 or 11:00p.m. in his bed before coming back into bed with us.

Lowe's Build and Grow - See It Grow Planter

We awoke to a cold and damp day.  The temperature was 38F and it was raining.  We can't believe just 6 more degrees and we would have snow.  It is unbelievable after the nice warm weather we were having.  We put on rain boots and rain coats and packed the kids up for the Lowe's build.  We arrived at Lowe's early, around 9:30 even though it starts at 10am.  We got an early start after they set up as we had a full day planned.  The girls quickly built their projects and planted their seeds in them.  They can't wait to see the seeds start to grow through the plexiglass window in the front of the planter.  We watered them as soon as we got home.

Today is also clean up day on Pierce Island.  We wanted to attend, but with Enzo's congestion and lack of sleep, the cold temperature and rain, we decided it is best to skipped it, even though they had coffee and refreshments.  Had the weather been warmer and Enzo not tired, cranky and in teething pain, we would have attempted it.  We are scheduled for the next beach clean up, so hopefully the weather is nicer so we can volunteer more.  The girls were sad about missing out on the clean up effort.

Yoga Work

For the last two classes, one with me and one with Chris today, the girls weren't so focused.  They were lagging behind in the poses, wanting to take child's pose (a relaxed pose) instead of doing the other poses and at times just staring off into space.  Chris was frustrated after this morning's class, so back at home I took the girls upstairs and talked to them about some of the breathing, positioning, etc.  Then I had them each take turns doing some run-throughs of different sequences and fine tuning a few poses.

Next class we plan to have one of the girls stay home and one go to class.  Whichever of us (Chris or I ) takes them, we plan to not take class ourselves and just work with them.  Hopefully after a couple of these sessions, the girls will be able to get more out of their practices.

Enzo and Daddy shop at Target

Daddy and Enzo go shopping at Target while mommy, Abby and Zoë are at evening yoga.  It was rainy and Enzo has been in a slight fuss due to teething and some congestion.  We walked around Target for about 30 minutes.  Enzo looked around the $1 bin for a while.  We settled on a squishy spider that we would use to scare mommy with later tonight.  We made our way to the food section where Enzo picked out some Juice, some bagels and some bananas.  First we thought it was listed at $0.19 per pound, but at the register the check out clerk only counted the bananas and said they were $0.19 each.  I questioned this, but he said that this is how they do it now.  I thought it was strange and that it might not be such a good deal.  When I got home I weighed out the 8.8 pounds of bananas and did the math, it worked out to be just under the per pound price we pay at Walmart, so it wasn't an issue.  Laura would have had me take them back otherwise.  We arrived about 10 minutes before the class let out, and Enzo complained for about 20 minutes until mommy showed up.  He was tired and cranky.

Relaxed day

Today I took the girls to the morning yoga class.  Not the 6am class, but the 9:30am class on Wednesdays.  The girls didn't do that great of a job.  Abby even managed to squeak out a fart going into down dog that caused both to giggle.  Luckily there was only one other student in this class so the embarrassment was limited.  I had to keep reminding them to keep focused and pay attention, it was disappointing as I know they are capable of doing better.  Hopefully with more time and effort they will get into the routine and start to shine.
We walked in and out to yoga this morning, so we were hungry when we got home shortly after 11am.  I helped Laura put together a huge pile of slaw that we put on bread for sandwiches for the girls.  We were hurried getting out of the house after lunch to get to Laura's orthodontist appointment in Rye.  While we waited for Laura and Enzo slept in the car, I let the girls run around on Jennes Beach.  There was this golden lab that was in digging mode and was going deep.  It was quite impressive.  On the way back we stopped by the Mill Pond playground to meet with the home schoolers.  Abby and Zoë accompanied on the walk home so we could stop in at the Red Ginger Bakery and the Wine & Cheese shop.  We bought 2 peanut butter cookies $1.50 each and about 1/3 pound of Mahón Queso for $5.12 after trying a sample.  The girls were impressed with all the different types of cheese available and want to try more cheeses.  I wonder how their palate will react to Gorgonzola or more of the "moldy" cheeses, or even the runny ones.

Enzo and Daddy shop

While mommy, Abby and Zoë were at night time yoga, Daddy and Enzo go shopping.  I have been watching Enzo while Laura and the girls do night time yoga.  It has been a challenge to keep Enzo busy and his mind off of missing Mommy, so I have been taking him shopping.  Tonight we went to Walmart.  Enzo gets to walk around the store while Daddy binge shops.  Laura is always surprised with what we come home with.  Enzo loves to walk around the store.  On these trips he gets full run of the place.  There aren't that many people in Walmart shopping this late at night.  We bought some cookies and Enzo had some samples of pound cake.  He was happy and didn't complain at all while out without mommy for the hour.

Courthouse Visit

The kids got to see the inside of the probate court in Brentwood today.  We had to go in to pick up a court order to fix a silly little spelling error (really just a space that shouldn't be there) on my birth records, but first the judge wanted to see me.  Zoë and Abby were pleased as they got to wear dresses, and we were pleased because it took literally minutes and we were out of there.

The girls did get to see a bit of how the court room things work though, as we waited outside the courtroom for the bailiff to bring us in and find our seats.  Then when he came in with the judge and gave the 'all rise' command - though I don't think the girls rose - and the please be seated.  Then at the end they rose when asked and that was that.

Ahead of the Game

Zoë and Abby are excited, as we just realized that they are really close to being finished with their grade 1 'Everyday Math' books.  We have some grade 1 math workbooks that we picked up at Target a while ago that we'll still have them work in, not to mention keeping up on the fractions with helping in the kitchen and with the money out at the grocery store, but they should be done with these books, which we got from the school they would have attended, around the beginning of May - a full month ahead of the public school kids, this thought delights Zoë and Abby.

Enzo and I drove out to Live&Learn this afternoon for Kate's baby shower.  Enzo was a little awestruck with all of the people at first and just wanted to stay close, but then he saw Elijah sitting at a little table so he went and joined him there.  After a game, while Kate began opening gifts, Enzo and Elijah sat having some fruit salad and crackers with dip, then they got bored with that so Reanna and Alicia took the boys and Aurora into the adjoining toddler room to play - Enzo loved it.  I was busy being scribe for Kate, writing down who gave which gifts, and goodness was she blessed with many great gifts.  We even stopped about half way through to do another game.  I went in to see what Enzo was up to and to try him on the potty - he was dry and went - and then finished up being scribe for the remaining gifts.  Every now and then Enzo would wander out to see what I was up to and then he'd go back in and play, until I had to pull him away to head home.

Lowe's Build and Grow - Mini Baseball Game

We actually missed this build, as we were focused on getting to yoga and spaced that there was one.  We realized about an hour after the build time was over, so I called the store and spoke with the woman who leads the builds and she remembered us.  She said she had already filled out certificates and everything and was waiting and waiting for us to arrive.  I asked if there were kits left over that we could come pick up and she said that she would get the kits, badges and certificates ready so Chris and the girls hopped in the car to go pick them up.  While I was getting Enzo down for a nap, Chris put the baseball diamonds together with the girls.
Note:  This project completed the girls aprons.  They no longer have room for new patches.  Not sure what we will do, maybe make a sash or something for the new ones.

One Week of Yoga

The girls have their first week of yoga classes under their belts.  Chris and I have alternated who goes to class with Zoë and Abby and who stays with Enzo.  It's understandably going to take the girls some time to acquire the focus and stillness they need in their poses, as well as doing the poses correctly, but they do pretty well considering that the classes are geared towards adult and are at least an hour long.  Everyone tells us after every class how impressed they are and how well the girls did.

Birthday Barbeque

We went to Kate and Ryan's house tonight for a potluck barbeque.  I made corn and bean salad to share, but also made her a giant cupcake.  We got the cake pan (bottom of cupcake on one side, cupcake top on the other) for this the other day at Wal-mart so I thought it would be fun to try it out.  The recipe that came with the pan ended up having enough left over to fill six muffin cups and even then the amount we put in the cake pan itself overfilled a bit. The girls didn't mind, as this meant we had to slice some off before flipping the cake pieces out of the pan, and of course they got to test it.  It ended up being quite tasty, and there was even enough cupcake for everyone at the barbeque to have a piece after dinner.

Though it was a bit chilly, the rain held off and the kids were able to run around in the yard a little bit.  They have a boxer named Monty, who Enzo was interested in but not thrilled with at the same time.  They also had a cat that Enzo kept trying to poke in the whiskers.  It seems that Enzo has Chris' cat allergy as he started sneezing a bit and his eyes were watery.  He did get a place of his own to sit at the table, as Kate and Ryan had just recieved a "Tripp Trapp from Stokke" high chair as a baby gift so Ryan put it together for the three toddlers to be able to use.  Just before it was time for us to head home, Ryan set up their atari (yes, atari!) and the girls had a blast playing some of the games.  Enzo did great going pee and keeping dry while there, and went again before getting jammies on to get in the car.

Odiorne Point Play

It was in the low 80's today, so we took advantage of it and went back to the Science center area of Odiorne to play on the playground and walk around without being chilly.  The girls climbed on a fallen down tree and ran around in the grass and then spent some time 'trying to make a fire' with two sticks.

Enzo tried to do everything the girls were doing, of course, but some areas he just couldn't follow as the brush on his bare calves bothered him.  He kept stopping and saying, "leg, leg" with a bit of a whine.  He took a liking to a smooth granite bench with carvings on it and kept going back to sit on it, before it was time for us to head home.  On the way, a potty break was neccessary so we stopped off at a little café and then let the girls each get a small ice cream cone.

Out Around Town

We headed out this morning for some errands in Newington.  First we stopped by Rumble Tumble to pick up a couple of bags full of hand-me-down clothes from Leeann (and Dakota and Quinn).  Loads of great stuff, the girls always love Dakota's hand-me-downs and I love Quinn's for Enzo of course.  I thought about it today, though they're the same age, the girls have been getting hand-me-downs from Dakota since they were all 2!  As you can tell from the egg drop photos, Dakota is probably about a full head taller than Zoë and Abby.  Even Enzo loves to go through the clothes, especially when there are shoes to try on.

Next Chris dropped Enzo off at Babie's R' Us, while he and the girls went to check out a few things at Wal-Mart.  I looked at the thick gerber training undies for Enzo, but didn't get them ($8 for just three underwear, really?!).  Then I got to walk around and enter more things into Kate's baby registry for her.  Shortly after we were finished, Chris and the girls arrived and we went over to Best Buy to look at headphoens and then browsed some of the on sale books outside of Barnes and Noble.  Then we went back to Wal-Mart so the girls could show me the yoga mats.  They each picked one out, Abby a sage green and Zoë a lilac purple, which came with a carrying strap.  We also found little snow mittens that will fit Enzo next year, for just $1.00.

Dry Night

Enzo woke up with a dry diaper this morning!  I very surprised by this when I took his diaper off to sit him on the potty.  In fact, if he hadn't done a nice long pee in the toilet, I probably would've been calling the pediatrician instead of rejoicing.

His diaper went on around 7:30pm and he nursed before bed.  Then he woke up around 10pm and nursed as well.  He didn't nurse during the night (that I can recall anyway :D ) but did nurse early in the morning and then went back to sleep.  That's a good amount of liquid going in without letting any out until potty time, especially for an 18 month old.

Easter 2010

The kids and I got out the door and off to church in a nice timely manner this morning.  We even had time to stroll around a little bit before heading in for the service.  It was a beautifully sunny day today, which the girls were estacic about since this meant they could wear the dresses they've been wanting so badly to wear.  After the service when I picked them up, they excitedly told me all about prizes they had won.  Apparently during a game they got tickets for winning portions and then later when their ticket number was called out they got the prize that matched their ticket.  Abby won a bag of life saver jelly beans and Zoë won a free personal pan pizza from pizza hut!

After church we got home and put Enzo down for a nap and then we went out to enjoy the beautfiul sunshine.  At first we drove over the Newcastle commons playground, which was packed, so we drove back to town to check out Mill Pond playground and to our surprise it was completely empty!  We had a good time with all of the structures to ourselves before heading home for dinner.

2010 Egg Dyeing

This afternoon I finally got the hard boiled eggs all ready and Chris helped me prepare the dyes.  We made eight colors for the girls to choose from and I put Enzo in his high chair with some coloring stuff to try and keep him occupied.  We managed to keep from getting too messy, and besided Abby being upset that she dropped her last egg on the floor before coloring it, all of the eggs turned out cute.  That being said, we're not dyeing hard boiled eggs again for a very long while.  Next year I think we'll make egg shaped cookies and decorate those, either with frosting and such or painting them with a mix of food coloring and evaporated milk.

Massive Helicopter Egg Drop Madness

Ok, not sure where to start with this entry.  Laura and the girls have been visiting a new church in the area that her high school friend's husband is the pastor of.  They started to advertise this helicopter egg drop probably close to a month ago, so we signed everyone up.  This is a new, young church and this was the first time that they had an event.  Due to the rain the venue was moved from a elementary school's field to the Rochester Fair Grounds.  After our build at Home Depot and brunch with Grampy, we met up with Reanna and Elijah at 11:50am.  The event was 20 minutes away and would start at 1pm.  The event caused a huge traffic jam and parking issues, more so than what happens during the actual fair.  This is what a neighbor told me as I asked if I could park my car in front of her home.  Laura and the girls had long since abandoned me at 12:45 while I sat in unending traffic.  It was amazing to see how many people and cars were here.  I finally caught up to them after they were registered.  It was my second lap around the huge crowd and drop zone that Laura's friend Leeann spotted me.  We had a few minutes to relax before finding our spot along the far side fence as the helicopters approached.  The first group already had the ground "seeded" with eggs.  The helicopter came in too low at first and scattered those eggs already on the ground.  Then the helicopter didn't move around while the eggs were dumped, making a huge pile of eggs in the middle.  It was absolute madness sending the girls into this pit.  Luckily they did't get hurt, but as you can see from the video, Zoë fell and was almost trampled.  I sent Laura in to get them shortly after realizing how much of a bad idea it was to send them in alone.  I put captions on the videos for entertainment value only.  We collectively scooped up 26 eggs, most of them had tootsie rolls candies inside, a few with gum, and none with any of the grand prizes of flat panel TVs or Nintendo Wii.  The girls had a great time regardless of the outcome and Mommy and Daddy were happy to have their children back.  It was estimated that there would be 5000 people there, but  there were more around 10,000, and besides that we saw loads of people without wrist bands, who did not register and weren't accounted for.  I hope the church continues this tradition next year with many of the suggestions learned from this years event.

Note in the second or slow motion third video (watch them full screen if your computer can handle it) how Abby is out ahead of the pack from the start, Zoë's foot got caught in her bag after she fell down (and Dakota almost trampled her, but did a nice leap over top) so it takes her a while to get back in the running.

Home Depot Kid's Workshop - Butterfly House

Today we built the butterfly house at Home Depot.  The weather was really nice so the build was outside.  We arrived just at 9am.  Grampy slept over last night so he could attend the build.  He helped Abby build the project while I worked with Zoë.  It was a quick and easy build and we were off to IHOP for breakfast by 9:30am.

Enzo has some Daddy Time

Mommy ran out of the house at 9am with Abby and Zoë in tow.  They were heading off to Yoga class.  Enzo was in his diaper.  He wasn't so excited for Mommy to be leaving, but I was tasked with getting him dressed to distract him.  He wanted to go to the door and it took me a few minutes to get him dressed.  Once dressed I put him the in the stroller for a long walk.  We walked over to Pierce Island.  The playground was underwater so we only walked over the structure one time.  We took the nature path near the water so we could look at the tug boats and submarines.  We saw many type of birds, a few ducks and seagulls , chipmunks, squirrels eating potato chips and many dogs.  Enzo had a great time.  He didn't complain at all.  He was walking the whole time since we arrived at the playground.  After the nature walk we walked over to Four Tree Island.  Enzo was enjoying the pier and exploring rocks and everything.  He was throwing shells and pine cones into the water, or at least over the rocks as it was low tide.  We saw the bridge go up and down.  Enzo was getting tired after walking almost the whole way around the island so I placed him back into the stroller without any complaints.  We walked off the island and over the bridge to Prescott Park.  We quickly made our way through the park around the construction and to the post office.  Enzo was excited about picking up the mail before meeting Mommy and the girls at Yoga.  We only had two envelopes and one flier in the mailbox.  Enzo was enjoying chewing on the flier as we strolled our way downtown.  We saw tons of people out at the cafe as we made our way on to Market Street.  We still had about 5 or 10 minutes until Mommy and the girls would be done with class so we just strolled around in circles.  Enzo did a great job.  He didn't complain or fuss much, even though he hadn't seen Mommy for 2 hours.  He did great with keeping his diaper dry as well.  Mommy was surprised to see us enter the studio after the class was over.  Two students came out and asked if those were my girls inside.  Both said the girls were great students and doing a super job.  Even though Enzo was requesting Mommy, he was stubborn about going to her once in the studio.  He kept turning to me and wanting me to carry him back out, even though now he wanted some milk.  He finally relented and let Mommy deliver him some milk.  Laura was relieved to have her baby boy back knowing there wasn't any issues or hassles while out enjoying her yoga session. We walked back to the car and went for some free coffee. The girls got some doughnuts as a reward for doing a great job which they could enjoy after the pizza lunch mommy had planned.

Empower Yoga - Beginning Yoga

It finally happened.  After many years of trying to get the girls involved in Yoga, tonight it finally happened.  I took the girls to the basics beginner class at 7:30pm.  This is already past the girl's bedtime so we were nervous of how they would behave and perform.  Abby and Zoë did really well.  The teacher and some students mentioned after the class at how well they did.  While they did a great job being respectful and quiet they were somewhat tired.  Abby was yawning for most of the class and both needed to rest and do child's pose during some of the poses.  Overall they did really well, but I think we might not "take" the class ourselves while we work with getting the girls postures and poses up to speed.  I am proud of the little young yoga students.  Enzo was happy to see us when we returned home.

Fort Foster Nature Walk

The weather was nice so we headed over to Fort Foster in Maine.  We visit this fort and park at least once or twice a year.  It is a long walk up from where you must park before you get into the park and you have to avoid all the dog feces.  We didn't intend on tiring out the girls before their first evening yoga class so we kept it limited to a small nature walk.  We spent about 2 hours exploring the grounds, the pier, the rocks and the trails.  The ground was somewhat wet after all the rain we were having so we didn't let them run in the muddy grass and play on the playset.  We did climb over tons of rocks and have a great time exploring the trails.  Enzo skipped his nap and was excited to be carried the whole time in the ergo wrap.  We snacked on the way home ready for our pasta dinner before yoga class.  Enzo was not happy to see us all go and leave him at home with mommy.

This sounds like it was a lot of fun. Did you take any pictures?

Enzo's 18 Month Check-up

Zoë and Abby begged me to let them go with me to Enzo's check-up today.  They were waiting, cameras in hand, all dressed to go by the door.  I relented and got everyone into the car, where both girls were already taking photos of their brother.

Enzo was not pleased when the nurse came into the room, and would have nothing to do with sitting on the baby scale for her.  So we resorted to weighing me by myself on the stand up scale and then me with Enzo, to figure out the difference.  He weighed 24.5 pounds (30th percentile), measured 33 inches (75th percentile) and had a head circumference of 191/2.  Enzo was fine, however, when Dr. Warren came in and got him all checked out.  She was in awe of his potty success and said to keep on top of it since he's showing the readiness, as it's much easier now when they're 3 and have the power struggle issue.  We shared all of the signs and words he's using and all of the physical stuff he's able to do.

He was again quite unpleased when the nurse came back in to give him his varicella vaccine.  He tensed up his leg a lot when the shot went in and cried for quite a while afterward.  Maybe Zoë and Abby taking pictures of him screaming didn't help.
