First Whole Sandwich

For the past few days after Abby and Zoë finish their half of sandwich and their sides at lunch, they both keep asking for more.  Today I decided to see how much sandwich they would eat each.  I made two, and had them share the first one.  They finished that in no time, and then I split the other between them.  They finished that one as well, and were ready for their veggies.  I can't believe that they both ate a whole sandwich, plus their milk, plus some veggies!

Waving Hello

Zoë was sitting in front of the mirror this morning talking to herself.  All of the sudden she started waving and saying "haaaa"  ( "hi" ) It was so cute to see her waving and saying hi to herself in the mirror.  She then started waving to Chris and I.  A little bit after that I was talking to Grandma Cindy on speaker phone.  When she said hi to the girls Zoë started waving to the phone.

Beach Feet

The girls had a very eventful day.  Tumble Tots in the morning, lunch in the park, and then a trip to the beach.  The weather was nice and warm, about 70 degrees.  We took the girls down the New Hampshire coast to a secluded beach between Rye and North Hampton.  We climbed the huge stone weather barrier and placed the girls bare foot on the sand.  This was the first time they were making their own foot prints in the sand.  It was so cute.  They had the place to themselves, and were soon running all over the beach.  They had to taste everything, which really freaked us out.  They tasted rocks, sand, sea foam and I am sure tons of other stuff we did not catch.  We walked them down to the incoming tide.  It was just ending low tide, so there was tons of sand before reaching the water.  Abby got a little too close, and we both ended up with wet feet.  Both girls didn't want to leave they were having so much fun.  We dusted them off after about 45 minutes, and packaged them up for the trip home.  We will have to go back really soon.

16 Month Pizza Party

We had a busy morning.  The girls tagged along while we ran some errands.  The car needed an oil change and Laura was hungry so we took the car to Jiffy Lube.  Laura was salivating over the smell from the Pizza Hut next door.  After chatting it up with a pregnant mom in the waiting room for 10 minutes, the car was ready, and Laura was even more hungry.  She walked the girls over to the Pizza Hut lunch buffet while I paid the bill.  I drove over there and met them at the table.  Laura had Abby already in her high chair.  I got Zoë all set and started serving up the pizza and pasta.  The girls had their PB&J sandwich with a side of pasta, peas, cheese, beats and broccoli while Laura and I had pizza.  The girls did really well and were completely a joy to have out.  This outing went extremely smoothly like a swiss watch.  Pizza parties with my girls are so much fun!  Happy 16 months old.

Communication Breakthrough

This is the first time I can honestly say that one of my girls communicated with me.  After dinner I was sitting and playing with Abby and Zoë in the play yard.  Abby came up to me and signed "more please water". I could not believe it.  I picked her up, brought her to the kitchen, and she drank the rest of her cup, I refilled it, she signed more, and kept on drinking.  It was absolutely amazing.  Signs of things to come, I can not wait.

Shoes on Shoes off

Zoë and Abby are able to undo the velcro straps on their sandals and slip out of them. Lately they have been trying to put them back on as well. Sometimes one will bring a sandal to the other to try and put it on her. Abby was in the exersaucer and Zoë crawled under it with a sandal, trying to get it on Abby's foot. Abby thought this was pretty silly and kept trying to lean over to see how Zoë was doing. Every time she did this her feet raised up and Zoë had to reposition herself to get the sandal near her sisters' tootsies. It is so funny to watch them get these new concepts and try try again to accomplish what they see us doing.

Zoë's Stair Reversal

Tonight Zoë was ready for bed first and started her stair climb with Chris. A little less than halfway up she stopped. She turned to look at Chris, then did a full squat. While squatting she kept scooting her feet back and looking where she was. When she got to the edge she put one foot down and then the other. She mastered this technique and went down at least four steps!

First Taste of Ginger

We had Japanese food tonight for dinner, so I made Abby and Zoë something different. Chris got an assortment of sashimi, and on the side were some fresh ginger slices. After the girls had eaten all of their dinner he let them both try a little taste of the ginger. Both of them chomped it up and swallowed it right down, and signed "please" for more. He let them each have another tiny little piece. After he was done eating he offered them a small bit more. This time Zoë didn't want any more, but Abby ate it again.

Red Pepper

Chris cut up thin slices of sweet red pepper for Abby and Zoë to try with dinner. They both chomped away on it with their front teeth. Zoë managed to bite off a nice chunk and chewed it all up. They didn't eat much of it, but they did both chomp away on it for a while.

First Easter Chocolate

Easter packages arrived today for our little bunnies. One was from Nonna, and the other from Nonno. There were great things in both, including adorable springtime outfits. Nonna sent different chocolates in hers for Chris and I. Chris was playing with Abby and Zoë having a few M&M's. He decided to let them each try a little piece, which they of course loved. After their dinner he let them each try another little bite. Lets hope they don't crave this chocolaty treat every night.

First Playground Experience

The weather is in the forties today and so sunny so we took Zoë and Abby out for a walk. We decided to take them to a nearby playground to walk around in the grass. Well, their was only one little patch of grass, as everywhere else is still snow covered. We let them walk around a little and then took them on the play structure. They liked walking on it and playing with the giant tic-tac-toe game, but were a little bit nervous trying out the slide. First I sat Zoë on my lap and went down the spiral slide, which she wasn't so sure she liked. Then Chris stood beside one of the short straight slides and held onto them each helping them slide down. We let them walk in the grass a little a little more before we left. When Chris tried to get Zoë back into her stroller she definitely did not want to sit for the ride back home. It will be nice when the weather gets even nicer and all of the snow melts away so that they can enjoy even more outings.

Hibachi Dinner Out

We met Reanna and Corey for dinner at a new Japanese restaurant this evening. It was the first time we've eaten out during the evening close to dinner time and so close to bedtime. We sat around the hibachi grill and tried to settle Abby and Zoë in with some dinner I brought along for them. They ate a bit, but were more content trying to grab plates from the table area and playing peek-a-boo with our napkins. They did very well and hardly even got antsy. They didn't get too loud or throw any tantrums. They were very playful and sociable, trying to share their wrapper with the couple across the table, who commented on how well behaved our girls were. Abby took interest in the chef, who did all sorts of tricks at the grill. When he made a volcano with onions and made it catch on fire, both girls were awed by the huge flame. When we left it was just about their bedtime and they were still doing very well, even without an afternoon or evening nap. Chris said that if they were older he would have rewarded them with a trip to get ice cream.

Wal-Mart Walkers

Today when we went to Wal-mart with Reanna and Corey the girls were antsy in their shopping carts. I had brought along their yogurt so I gave it to them and they drank it all up. Afterward, while Chris and I were printing pictures they were still quite antsy and fussing. I got them both out and held their hands as they walked around the area. When the pictures were done we went to finish our shopping and find Corey and Reanna. We decided to let the girls walk the aisles with us. The first thing Zoë did was walk over to a couple of guys and start smiling and giggling at them, we'll have to have a talk about strangers. *smile* Abby was pretty content with holding my hand while we walked, but Zoë had several fits when we tried to direct her along the path we were walking. A couple of times Chris picked her up and carried her a few steps, while she screamed in protest. Her protests led Reanna and Corey to us and we all walked together. They both happily walked around us while we were in the art isle picking out special crayons for their little hands. They got to walk their final way to the registers, this time Zoë was content to hold Reanna's hand while Abby held onto mine. We heard several people comment "Oh look how cute, look at those cute little girls." We have to agree, seeing our little ladies toddle around the store for the first time was just too cute, tantrums and all.

Stair Climbers

Zoë and Abby have suddenly become interested in the stairs. Zoë started to try and climb them so Chris stood behind her with his hands on either side of her. She was cautious about it and went very slowly, unless she could feel Chris' hands on her, then she went a little faster. Abby saw this and wanted over there as well. I put her down and stood with her as she immediately took off, not caring if I had my hand there or not. I was surprised at how quickly she went, without even looking back to see if I was still there. Ever since then whenever we go up or down the stairs they both struggle with me to get down. Today Chris and I once again stood with them so that they could get some stair exercise. Abby went first and zoomed up them and crawled into her room, quite pleased with herself. Chris tried to teach her how she could go down safely, but she just wanted to crawl up again. I helped Zoë go second, as Abby sped past her. Chris took Zoë back down to the bottom for a second try and this time she went quicker, catching up to Abby in the bedroom.

Toddler Email

The girls always want to use my computer. They see me working at the computer, and want to help. They want to use the mouse and the keyboard all the time. We set them up at the computer and let them type away. It was so funny; they were hooting and hollering the whole time, even while using the mouse. They got so excited that they started really hitting the keyboard hard. I kept on encouraging them, telling Laura that they were typing us some email.

Stern Face and Pout

Abby and Zoë have started to realize more when we tell them things are off limits. A few times now they have not only stopped when we tell them "hands off," but given us a pouty face or a little cry. The other day Abby was going for a cord plugged into the wall and Chris told her "Ah Ah, hands off." She looked at him and gave the biggest pout. She started crawling away and gave him another big, bottom-lip-out, pout complete with teary eyes. This evening Zoë was heading to play with the tag on a cord to our space heater. Chris called her name and when she looked at him he did the best "stern face" he could muster. I was about to laugh at his attempt, when Zoë just started crying. We both had to look away so that she wouldn't see us giggle. She didn't like Daddy getting stern with her. He called her over and gave her some cuddles afterward, and she was all better.

Beets Sensation

Zoë and Abby tried beets for the first time with their lunch this afternoon. First I cut up a slice for them to share. They each made some faces but started eating it. I then gave them each a slice of their own. I thought that Abby might try shoving the whole thing in her mouth at once, as she does with most of her other food, but she took nice bites. Even though Zoë is still not feeling well, she ate almost all of her piece. I am glad we found something else that they readily accepted.

Abby Accident

While crawling around the floor today with a book, Abby slipped and fell. She did not let go of her book to catch herself. There was a loud thud and smack noise as the book and her head hit the floor. She must have bit her top lip because as soon as she opened her mouth to cry, there was blood everywhere. Laura was absolutely freaked out by the blood and wailing and I came running to see what had happened and assess the damage. While Laura got her a pacifier and some baby Tylenol I checked on Zoë only to see that she took the opportunity to raid the computer station, and bang the camera on the phone repeatedly. She is such an opportunist, that when Abby had recovered and was being changed, Zoë crawled over and took her pacifier from her mouth. We then gave Abby the cold pacifier from the freezer for her now very swollen upper lip. The bleeding stopped fairly quickly after the Tylenol and some cuddles. This was our first bloody accident experience. We were both sick to our stomachs. Laura still is.

Abby, sweetie. I hope you are okay now. Uncle Matt hurt his lip when he was learning to walk, fell onto a hassock and bled like crazy, I called the doctor and walked him to the doctors just to be sure everything was okay and it was. I was sooo upset. But all was well. Mom and dad have to get ready, there is going to be other accidents, right Uncle Matt, Aunt Elizabeth and Daddy.

Snow Tub

Zoë and Abby have been admiring the snow through the windows for the past week. We've been wanting to bundle them up and bring them out to play in it, but it has just been way too cold. Today we decided to bring the snow in to them. I got them both into their snow suits, while Chris collected a couple of buckets full of snow. After I had Abby and Zoë in the tub Chris put one of the buckets in. Zoë dug right in, trying to pick the snow up with her mitten covered hands. Chris dumped out the other bucket for them to crawl around in. Abby immediately tried to climb out of the tub, while Zoë continued to try and figure out a way to eat it. It was fun to see their first reactions to the fluffy white stuff.
