Early morning beach jogging

Abby and Zoë woke up early this morning.  Laura had a horrible night's sleep, so I quickly got dressed, scooped up the girls in their PJs and flip flops, and headed down to the beach.  We saw Cousin Bill down in the lobby who accompanied us to the beach.  The beach was almost empty, and the sun hadn't burnt off the overcast yet.  The girls took the opportunity to run all the way down the beach and back.  Without Mommy around to reign them in, they took off and didn't turn back until I was almost out of site.  I was slightly shocked, because they usually keep close, but they just kept running and running.  Nothing like an early morning jog to get the juices flowing.

Post Cards From Nonno

Abby and Zoë each got post cards from Nonno Ernie, from Merck forest.  Zoë's had a picture of a cow on the front, and she thought it was funny that Nonno wrote that the cow wouldn't give him any milk.  Abby's had chickens, and she giggled when I read her the part about the chickens giving Nonno a dozen eggs.

Napping with Buddy Lee

The girls had a lazy morning hanging around with Grandma Cindy and Buddy Lee.  After nap, we walked to the park to feed the birds.  It was too cold, mommy stayed home, and the birds didn't want any of the cereal we brought for them. :(

Little Shoppers

After yoga class, we went to Shaw's.  We saw two mini shopping carts, something this Shaw's hasn't had before.  It took a few minutes for Zoë and Abby to get the hang of steering, but pretty soon they were shopping it up, picking out produce and loading their carts as we went through the store.

Snow Play

We got a good amount of snow last night and some through the night, so while Chris was shoveling, he let the girls play in the snow and I snapped some shots of them enjoying the snowy porch.

2007 Christmas Photo Cards

We finally got around to this years photo session for the Christmas card.  The girls are getting easier to photograph now that they can stand and position themselves.  We are just having a harder time keeping them still, a problem we hadn't experienced in past sessions.  This year the issue was with smiling, how to smile and how to hold your hands, and all that good stuff.  We did take nearly as many photos as last year, let's hope that trend continues. We finalized on this photo, and made out a couple card styles to choose from.  Let us know which is your favorite.

Baking with Nonna

Abby and Zoë enjoyed some baking time with Nonna.  We made, what else, cinnamon buns.  Nonna and the girls sat on the kitchen floor getting everything measured out for Daddy.  They had a great time.

Postcards and Abby's Junk Mail

We are just getting back into the habit of walking to the post office daily.  The girls love to receive post cards, or any mail for that matter.  Abby received her first piece of JUNK mail this week.  Aunt Reanna put her name into a raffle while visiting a bookstore, for which Abby won a Strawberry Shortcake "Dress up days" DVD.  Apparently the bookstore put her onto some list, and sent her a coupon, $5.00 off a purchase.  This was very exciting for Abby.

This week we received postcards from Nonna and our special request postcards from Aunt Elizabeth who was visiting Scotland.

A Sweet Moment

Last night I went in to check on the girls, as usual, before going to bed.  As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I noticed that Zoë wasn't on her side of the bed and began scanning the floor thinking she must've fallen out of bed.  That's when I noticed the top half of Zoë's body was draped over Abby, who was sleeping on her side.

I went out into the hallway to have Chris bring the camera up.  He went in, and Abby began to shift slightly.  I closed the door some and when I opened it, they were still snuggling close... luckily Chris snapped a quick picture of this sweet moment

Picture People Pictures - Goodbye Grandma Cindy

We went to the mall this afternoon to get pictures taken at Picture People - Grandma Cindy offered to get their pictures done for my birthday.  At first the girls were shy, and all Zoë wanted to do was sit in this rocking chair, but it didn't take too long for the girls to warm up and be giggly and full of smiles.  While we waited for the pictures to get printed we walked around the mall, and skipped, and hopped.  We picked out a couple of poses we liked and headed off to get some dinner before saying good-bye to Grandma Cindy, who has an early flight out tomorrow morning.

Suduko Lovers

Abby and Zoë just love to "play numbers" with Daddy.  Zoë today kept asking Daddy "Is it time to play numbers now?" "Will you play numbers with me now?"  They sit right beside Chris, one at a time, and help him write the numbers in.  It's funny to watch him try to complete the puzzle with their "help".

Pierce Island Park & Nature Walk

Laura had an on-site training event at work today and Friday.  Instead of submitting the girls to the day care there without their mommy's supervision, I decided to keep them home.  We had a great time.  We strolled to the Post Office, then played in Prescott park on the way home.  After lunch al fresca and a nap, we strolled over to Pierce Island to use the swings and playground equipment.  I swung the girls as high as possible, but they still shouted, "push me higher please daddy gi".  It is so funny to hear them make demands.  After the swings, Zoë went to the car and Abby went to the slide.  Zoë quickly joined her on the slide.  I knew the girls were not ready to go home yet, but they were getting bored of the slide, so I asked them to walk on the path.  We walked the nature path around Pierce Island.  We quickly found some pine cones for each to hold.  Abby really enjoyed walking on the path, while Zoë was starting to drag her feet.  Zoë eventually got too tired to continue walking and I put her in the stroller.  Abby made it the whole path without going in the stroller.  It was a great day out and we enjoyed the most of it.

Dinner Out and Ice Cream

Abby and Zoë arrived home late from school this evening.  I was awaiting their arrival with bibs in hand.  Laura knows what that means, dinner out.  We have not been to Maine in a while so we thought it would be a good idea to visit for dinner.  We drove over the bridge to the famous Bob's Clam Hut.  Laura likes this place because it is attached to a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop.  We got some haddock and shrimp dinners to share.  Abby had been eating like crazy, making up for missed time while being sick.  She ate tons of "shrimpies" and pieces of fish.  She even tried the cole slaw, fries and onion rings.  They both enjoyed dipping the "shrimpies" and fish in the tartar sauce.  Zoë ate well but not as much as Abby.  At the end of dinner while Zoë was getting cleaned up, she was giving Abby all the "shrimpies" that she had left.  Abby just kept shoveling them in, one after the other until her cheeks were all puffed out like a squirrel.  I didn't think they had room left for a dessert, but they both surprised me.  I knew they would find a place for that ice cream cone.  We stopped by the drive through on a way home for their cones.  Laura hopped in the back to monitor the girls and take photos.  They ate the whole cones in very little time.  They were done by the time we arrived home, and it was a very quick car ride.

Grocery Store Olympics

The girls got all fired up about the winter games in Torino this year.  I think they were fired up with all the shows about Italy and all the chocolate and gelato shops they profiled on TV.  We only got to watch a couple events due to conflicting schedules.  It is still amazing to see what the girls picked up.  They learn very quickly.
