Pierce Island Park & Nature Walk
Laura had an on-site training event at work today and Friday. Instead of submitting the girls to the day care there without their mommy's supervision, I decided to keep them home. We had a great time. We strolled to the Post Office, then played in Prescott park on the way home. After lunch al fresca and a nap, we strolled over to Pierce Island to use the swings and playground equipment. I swung the girls as high as possible, but they still shouted, "push me higher please daddy gi". It is so funny to hear them make demands. After the swings, Zoë went to the car and Abby went to the slide. Zoë quickly joined her on the slide. I knew the girls were not ready to go home yet, but they were getting bored of the slide, so I asked them to walk on the path. We walked the nature path around Pierce Island. We quickly found some pine cones for each to hold. Abby really enjoyed walking on the path, while Zoë was starting to drag her feet. Zoë eventually got too tired to continue walking and I put her in the stroller. Abby made it the whole path without going in the stroller. It was a great day out and we enjoyed the most of it.

Dinner Out and Ice Cream
Abby and Zoë arrived home late from school this evening. I was awaiting their arrival with bibs in hand. Laura knows what that means, dinner out. We have not been to Maine in a while so we thought it would be a good idea to visit for dinner. We drove over the bridge to the famous Bob's Clam Hut. Laura likes this place because it is attached to a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop. We got some haddock and shrimp dinners to share. Abby had been eating like crazy, making up for missed time while being sick. She ate tons of "shrimpies" and pieces of fish. She even tried the cole slaw, fries and onion rings. They both enjoyed dipping the "shrimpies" and fish in the tartar sauce. Zoë ate well but not as much as Abby. At the end of dinner while Zoë was getting cleaned up, she was giving Abby all the "shrimpies" that she had left. Abby just kept shoveling them in, one after the other until her cheeks were all puffed out like a squirrel. I didn't think they had room left for a dessert, but they both surprised me. I knew they would find a place for that ice cream cone. We stopped by the drive through on a way home for their cones. Laura hopped in the back to monitor the girls and take photos. They ate the whole cones in very little time. They were done by the time we arrived home, and it was a very quick car ride.

Grocery Store Olympics
The girls got all fired up about the winter games in Torino this year. I think they were fired up with all the shows about Italy and all the chocolate and gelato shops they profiled on TV. We only got to watch a couple events due to conflicting schedules. It is still amazing to see what the girls picked up. They learn very quickly.

Sniffing the Bunny
Abby does this "thing" with her sleep lovie, which happens to be a blue bunny head blanket. She takes one of the ears and rubs it on her nose, smelling it. It is so crazy to watch but she seems to like it. It helps her get to sleep. Here is what it looks like.

Amoskeag Fishway
I was really excited. For the past month I have been telling people about the fish ladder and this morning's event. I even tried to enlist other people to come along, now I am glad they all turned me down. We got the girls in the car early and headed off to Manchester. We made it
Amoskeag Fishways on the Merrimack river at 10:20. The salmon were stocked at 10, where they would then climb the fish ladder. I know how long it takes me to climb a ladder, so I thought a large number of fish, even if they did not climb orderly, would take some time to ascend the 200 foot ladder. I was wrong. As we parked, we saw people getting into their cars and leaving. I looked at Laura and asked, "could it be over already?" I can remember going to fish stocking events while growing up in New Jersey, and they were an all day event, more like a festival. Apparently the NH Fish and Wildlife authorites thought that releasing only 6 salmon warranted a press release and special event at the fishway. We know it was only 6 fish, not by witness accounts for they didn't see any fish either, but because we called and asked after we got home. The lady on the phone informed us that only 3 fish survived. We noticed while we were there that people pointing in the water to 3 fish that were stuck to the end gate, apparantly dead. With all the rain in the past 2 days, the water was so murky we could not see much of anything from the underwater viewing port holes, although Laura did accurately identify a leaf. We took some photos, but they are not so great, the only fish most people saw were on the signs. My hopes of seeing a live salmon climb the fish ladder were crushed today. On a happier note, the girls had a great time getting out and about after 2 days of rainy in home play.

Salon Day
Laura took the girls to their first visit to the salon. It was actually Laura's appointment, but the girls went along. Laura donated her 10 inches of hair to the
locks of love organization. The girls sat patiently and watched. They didn't know what to make of the whole production, or of how Laura looks now. Laura claims they are now staring at her trying to figure out what happened to her long hair.

Christmas day
This morning we went over to Corey and Reanna's house in Dover. We opened our stockings together, and a few presents. The girls got some great gear, including a music center which I put together. I really felt like a dad putting together toys on Christmas. It really drives it all home. I hope they don't get more complex than this though, 8 screws and maybe a half dozen pieces. We were so tired from the night before, and both Abby and Zoë were so cranky today, we could not catch a break. The girls started to settle down after their mid-afternoon nap 1:30 - 3:00.

Christmas Eve in Quincy
Nonna arrived on the 22nd in Quincy. We drove the girls down to Uncle Matt's house today to spend some time with them for Christmas dinner. The girls got to spend time with Nonna, Aunt Elizabeth, and Uncle Matt. They had a great time crawling around Matt's house. They were amazed at the lights on his real Christmas tree. No tinsel so no worries. The girls got their presents early, and were very excited with the walking and talking pooh bear.

Snowy Post Office Walk
It started snowing early this morning. The girls have not really seen snow falling before, even though it snowed about a month ago. They were sleeping, and woke up with the snow on the ground and it melted in only a few hours, so they really did not notice the "snow". This time, I got the chance to hold each one of them near the large back window, so they could watch the flakes coming down. They were both amazed at how bright it was outside, and all the whites stuff flurrying in front of the window. Abby was making a few sounds, something like "meep" or "mehp", it was so cute. Zoë likes to place her hands on the window to feel the coldness, and then pull them away quickly. It might not have been the best decision, but while it was still snowing, we bundled up the girls, and put them in snugglies, and ventured out to the Post Office. The snow was still coming down, and it was windy. About half way there, we already had rosy cheeks. The girls were good spirited, giggling, and chatting the whole time. The post office workers commented on how cute the bundled girls looked, and they are right. We were happy to get home and warmed up, the girls enjoyed their afternoon snowy walk to the post office. We got a holiday card from a friend in Switzerland.

First Thanksgiving
Zoë and Abby watched us intently all morning as we prepared the dishes for our thanksgiving dinner. There was a lot of shuffling pots and pans and food around as we tried to juggle getting food ready and taking care of the girls. Uncle Matt came up last night to spend the weekend. Grampy and Uncle Tom showed up a little after 1p.m. Shortly afterwards we sat down for dinner while Abby and Zoë finished their nap. As we were finishing Chris got them up and brought them down to enjoy their first thanksgiving dinner. They had their oatmeal and some crackers. Along with these we let them try a small piece of my roll and a couple bites of mashed potatoes. Abby enjoyed watching herself in the mirror on the wall make a big mess of her tray and hair . After they were all done and cleaned up they got to hang out on the couch with Grampy and Uncle Tom as the boys watched football. After my Dad and Brother had gone we all just relaxed and played a game that Matt brought up. Zoë and Abby went down to bed easily, as we are sure they were tired out from all the excitement of the day.

Double Bubble
Zoë and Abby had their first bath together this evening after a very messy dinner. It was also the first time that they weren't either being held or in their bath seat. Chris got the bath ready, complete with their Johnson & Johnson body wash for bubbles, while I undressed the girls. They had a fun time playing in the crib together before the tub was ready for them. Zoë went into the tub first and went straight for the duck thermometer. When I put Abby in with her she immediately wanted it as well, of course. They quickly realized that they didn't have to stay in one spot and enjoyed the frolicking and splashing they were able to do. Zoë slipped a couple of times. Once backwards and once onto her tummy, but we caught her in time to avoid "owies". Abby slipped onto her stomach once, but since the water was very shallow and we were both right there to whisk her back up, she was fine. They loved being free in the tub together.

11 Months Old
Today the girls are 11 months old. We just can't believe all of the things they have accomplished. We also can't believe how close to a year old they are! We look over and see them pulling up here and there, trying to stand on there own. They interact with us and with each other so much, and just babble away to us. How has the time passed so quickly?
