Celebrating Daddy's Birthday

Abby and Zoë were very excited this morning to be able to give Daddy the birthday cards they'd made him.  Both of the girls told me what they wanted their cards to say, so I wrote it on a separate piece of paper so that they could copy the letters.  Zoë wanted to just write 'Dad' on one side with a picture of a birthday cake and then 'Love Zoë' on the other side.  She needed a little bit of help with some of the letters.  Abby wanted to write 'Happy Birthday Dad' on one side, also with a picture of a birthday cake, but drew me next to the cake as if I were making it.  Abby started with 'Dad' at the bottom of her page, then moved up a bit to write 'Happy'.  She fit most of the letters side by side, but then had to put the 'y' above the 'p's'.  She started a very large 'B' next to the 'H' in "happy" and then put all of the other letters for "Birthday" underneath "happy".  It was really cute, and she did it all herself.  On the other side she wrote "Love Abby" really well.

The girls helped me to start  making waffle batter to make some yummy home made waffles in our waffle iron.  Then I made some maple-raspberry syrup to accompany them.  Daddy ended up helping with the waffle opperation, as I made a double batch to freeze a bunch.  When Daddy went up to shower, I blew up a few balloons that we had in our 'junk' drawer and tied some ribbon on them and hung them up in the living room.  Abby and Zoë thought this was so funny and wanted to surprise Daddy, so when he came down the stairs, they crouched down under the balloons and when Daddy came into the room, they jumped up and yelled "Surprise!"

Later in the day I called the Ben and Jerry's over in Maine to see how much their ice cream cakes were, as I had a coupon for one, but to my dismay a Bob's Clam Hut worker informed me that Ben and Jerry's is no longer in their building.  Then Abby, Zoë, and myself went to look in the baking cupboard to see what kind of a cake we could make, only to remember that we only had one egg left, due to the morning waffle making... bummer!  Abby and Zoë sang "Happy Birthday" to Daddy throughout the day though, cake or no cake, in English and in Spanish.  They also each gave him 33 kisses, plus one to grow on, and then we all took turns giving Daddy 33 spanks plus one extra.  Daddy is very ready to dole out Abby and Zoë's birthday kisses and spankings come their birthday!
