Wednesday School Lessons

I don't believe I mentioned the new addition to my teaching team... we call it "Sound Puppet".  (It seems to switch between us referring to it as "he" or "she".  I usually say "he", but the girls refer to everything as "she")  Sound Puppet was introduced last week, it is a white paper lunch bag with a crayon face and name tag.  Sound Puppet is very picky, he tells Abby and Zoë what he likes and then they have to choose something to give to them that starts with the same letter.  For some reason Abby and Zoë really like Sound Puppet and get upset when he has to go back in his folder.

Today the Picky Puppet came out again to help play the oddity task game with alliteration using our picture cards.  I put out pictures of soap, snake, log, leaf, tie, 10 (ten), bus, and a bat, mixed them up and then had the sound puppet take turns telling Abby and Zoë what he liked and asking them to pick two cards whose names started with the same letter.  So, to start, Sound Puppet told Abby that he liked taco's and asked for two more things that started with the same letter as t-t-t-taco.  (Apparently Sound Puppet also has a stuttering problem)  Next, Sound Puppet told Zoë he liked burgers and before I even went over the sound Zoë immediately picked up the bus and bat.  It amazes me how quickly Zoë gets things like this.  We're going to start discussing the ending sounds of words as well, but continue to refresh with the beginning sounds as review and also because Abby is still trying to fully grasp it.

Before Sound Puppet came out we played a couple of clapping games.  First we did patterns with things like clapping, patting, and squeezing (hugging ourselves), then we did a count to the beat with clapping.
