Cake Making

Zoë and Abby decided to stay home from church today so that they could make a 'surprise' cake for my birthday. They wanted to do it when I wasn't home to watch them and also wanted to do it ahead of time since the directions said to let it sit in the fridge for a couple of days before you want to serve it.

They were making a black forest cake, upon request, for me, with cherry butter cream icing in between the layers and whipped cream topping... everything made from scratch. Chris gave the girls some of the cake pieces as well as the icing and such and let them make their own cakes too. Their creations were definitely unique, but not quite in shape for storing. Chris let each of the girls start digging into their cakes at the table, and they graciously shared some with me. I think Zoë must have put three inches of icing in between each layer, so needless to say after a few bites I needed a water break.
