Abby, Zoë and Enzo

I was so amazed at the progression of events in our time swimming up in the pool today!  Both of the girls have been working on getting their faces and heads in the water every time we are in the pool, but today they really made progress.  Abby was standing up and leaning over dunking her head all the way under, so Zoë began doing it too.  I told them to try doing that while lying down in the pool. (They do this thing where they have their hands touching the bottom, arms straight, and feet out in back and they walk themselves across the pool like this, kicking their feet)  They both did this a few times, getting their heads all the way under, which was great.  I made the comment that this was the start of learning how to swim under water and all of a sudden Zoë began at one end of the pool, counted to three, put her head all the way under and walked herself on her hands across the pool like this.  Abby saw this and decided to try as well.  She had a different technique, as she decided that she'd try doing scoops with her hands and kick her feet while under, after pushing off of the wall, so she didn't actually get far but it was good practice.  Then she would come up and stand all the way up and wipe her face and catch her breath.  I was really surprised with how long Zoë would hold her breath, and when she'd come up she would put just her head above to take a breath and then go back under until she'd reached the wall.  Eventually, both of the girls were practicing getting their arms and legs moving while under water, and holding their breath for a while before coming up for air and then reaching the other side.  It was really fun to watch their progress and pride.
